The Khovar- Sohrai paintings originate from the tribal areas in Hazaribagh and its adjoining district of Jharkhand state in India. The Khovar is a wall or mural art consisting of black and white colours. Artiste Bulu Imam, the Padmasree awardee(2019)is the person credited for bringing the tribal art of Khovar to the world. From the early 90s, he is working tirelessly for bringing tribal art to art lovers. In the contemporary artwork, the tribal wall painting of Khovar is slowly but definitely making a place for itself.
